We are living in some very uncertain times. We never are sure if our jobs are going to be there tomorrow. With all the people being laid off who’s to say that you will not be next. Here we are ay the beginning of a new year once again. The results are in from 2008. How did you do? Did you achieve your goals? Or at least are you heading in the direction of your goals. If you hit all your goals chances are you didn’t set them high enough. Its okay if you didn’t reach all your goals. I have some goals that are not meant to be achieved this year or even next. The important thing is that you set goals so you have something to attain, something to push you, something to live for, so set your goals for 2009.

What is a goal? I don’t mean to sound silly but when I was new to personal development I didn’t really know how to go about setting goals. A goal is something that you would like to have or attain. It can be money, better health, success, or many other things. You just have to figure out what is that you want. It must also be stated in a way that you and anybody else could measure it. I will lose 10 pounds is not as powerful as I will weigh 135 pounds by 5 o’clock on June 30. The second is much clearer. A goal must be specific and it must be written down in detail.

I have learned a lot of things in life but the most important thing I have learned is I am responsible for me. If I am not getting the results I want then I have to look at the activity I have been doing. I can not look at anyone but myself. I see too much blaming going on. We tend to want things handed to us on a platter. Things can come to us on a platter but we have to put in the time and proper action for that to happen. I have to get my butt off the couch away from the TV and make it happen.

I have many mentors in my life but if I fail it is not their fault. I can only blame myself for not learning what they were teaching.

Here is the recipe for success in responsibility.

Mindset First you have to take responsibility for what you read, listen to, and what you watch. All these affect how you think. If you do not take control of your mindset the media will control it for you. You will end up frustrated, discouraged, and broke.

Our mindset will control what kind of action we take.

Attitude We are responsible for our attitudes. We choose to what kind of day we are going to have. Have you ever heard a leader whining about their team not doing anything?

We choose to have a great day every day. We choose to respond instead of react to the things that happen in our lives.

Action. We have to take responsibility for our action or lack there of. If you do not have a plan of action then get one. Get with your mentor and they will be glad to assist you with getting a plan of action.

Results We all want results. We want the big payoff but if we fail to take responsibility for our mindset which affects our attitude which drives our action to the results that we are getting. If you are not getting the results you desire then look at this recipe and see which step you are missing. Get a book or take a class just take responsibility so you to can live the Lifestyle you deserve.

Well think about this for a second if others can continue to be successful through a recession why can’t you. Before I get into the 5 ways to guarantee your success let me say this. You have to decide what success is to you. Is it just making a lot of money, or are there other things that are important to you? Success looks different for everybody but you have to decide what it is for you.

You have to find out what the successful people around us are doing. Understand that success principles work the same for everybody. If you want to be successful long term it is going to take work. (no get rich quick schemes here)

Continue your education. If you are not currently as successful as you would like to be than you have to learn why that is not working. If you keep doing what you have always done you will get what you always have gotten. The key is always be learning and getting better. Continue to improve your skills and develop your philosophy. Their are many ways to do this. The simplest is to read a half hour a day in your given profession. If you are blue collar and want to change than find a book that takes you in the direction of your goals. You can also go to seminars and workshops.

Create your own blueprint for your life. I know that some of you who read this are saying this should be first. To that I say, if you don’t find out what it takes to be successful and if you don’t develop your own personal philosophy through the reading of books and seminars, you will not understand the importance of your own blueprint for life. Your blueprint is your plans and goals for your life. A blueprint is critical to the building of a house. It is just as critical for your life. People do not plan to fail they just fail to plan.You must make a plan if you want to guarantee your success.

Success takes all out massive action. After you create your blueprint or your plan. You have to take action. There is no point in making a plan if you don’t take the action required. Just remember that success takes work and you will have to give up some tv time and other hobbies until you reach the level of success you are looking for.

Never quit on your dreams of being successful. The only way to fail is to quit. Yes there are going to be some bumps on the journey to success but they are what makes being successful the joy that it is. Most people quit when they are 5 feet from the gold. So when you hit a pot hole in the road, remember every successful person has hit them. Always know that you deserve to be successful.

Benjamin Franklin said “If I had 4 hours to chop down a tree I would spend 3 hours sharpening my axe and 1 hour chopping the tree.”  What that means is we must spend time developing our skills.  Develop your personal philosophy! ·       Read 15 minutes of a good book a day

·       Listen to personal development audios

·       Learn to set goals  Its not the blowing of the wind that determines where we are but the set of sail.  There is a price to pay for success and every one has to pay it. Yes we must pay it in advance. It is all a part of the process

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he. We become what we think about. What we think about we bring about. We really do create our realities.

 So don’t be lazy in thought or language. You become the average of the five people you hang around the most.Books to read!!!
